Police Recover Stolen 2005 Nissan Murano Twice Within 24 Hours

After the owner of a 2005 Nissan Murano reported their vehicle stolen to the Long Beach Police Department, the car’s information was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed on the car.
Within 39 minutes of the LoJack activation, officers with the Long Beach Police picked up the LoJack signal from the victim’s stolen Murano. The officers tracked it to a location in the City of Long Beach where they observed the vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was in good condition, but missing the spare keys. Long Beach Police called the victim and released the vehicle to her in the field.
The next day, the victim noticed that her vehicle had been stolen again. Long Beach Police once again picked up the LoJack signal from the victim’s stolen Murano and tracked it to an intersection in Long Beach, where they observed one male suspect driving her stolen vehicle.
When requested back up units arrived, police conducted a traffic stop where they took the suspect into custody. The 61-year-old suspect told officers that he bought the vehicle from someone he knew for five dollars and that he also had the missing spare keys. The suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto and a variety of other charges. Long Beach Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
