  • October 9, 2012

On October 4th, the owner of a 2004 Melroe Bobcat contacted Anaheim Police Department to report his Bobcat had been stolen from a construction site in Anaheim.

Anaheim Police verified the theft and entered the equipment’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Later that day, deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Compton Station were in the area when they received a silent LoJack signal from the stolen Bobcat. The signal was tracked to a large recycling business however, at that time it was closed. Detectives from Los Angeles County Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP), were notified.

Early in the morning on October 5th, the TRAP detectives were in position at the location and when the gates were opened at the recycling business they made contact with the person in charge and located the stolen Bobcat. They learned that the friend of the owner of the recycling business had just purchased the Bobcat for $2500 and asked to store it at the recycling business. TRAP detectives made contact with the owner of the Bobcat and learned this was the THIRD time it had been stolen, tracked and recovered utilizing LoJack. They further learned that the original purchase price on the Bobcat was $42,000. The owner of the Bobcat responded to the location and picked up his equipment. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
