LoJack Helps San Diego Police Air & Ground Units Recover Stolen 2012 Toyota Camry and Arrest Suspect

  • December 7, 2012

While it’s widely known that LoJack Corporation is the only stolen vehicle recovery system directly integrated with police cars, many people do not know we also equip many police aviation units across the country with LoJack police tracking computers.

Having our equipment in aircrafts provides a unique advantage to LoJack customers because it provides a wider “net” so to speak to help recover stolen cars quickly.

In today’s story, the owner of a 2012 Toyota Camry contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report that her vehicle was stolen from a residential area in the city of Vista, California.

San Diego County deputies verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Minutes later, officers from the Escondido Police Department and San Diego County Sheriff’s air unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Camry on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a commercial parking lot in the area of East Grand Avenue in Escondido.

There, the officers observed a suspect as he exited the stolen Toyota.  The suspect was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.  The suspect had previously been arrested for vehicle theft and other related crimes.

The owner was very happy when Escondido Police contacted her to advise that the vehicle was recovered undamaged.  The Toyota Camry was valued at approximately $25,000.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry on July 3, 2012 at Toyota of Escondido, Inc. in Escondido, California.
