Pizzeria Caper – Why You Should Never Leave Your Car Running Unattended

  • February 22, 2013

During adverse weather conditions, it can be very tempting to leave your car unattended while you run into the store or in this case a pizzeria to quickly grab and go. As the owner of an Audi Q7 learned the hard way, this unsafe practice can sometimes have dire consequences.

On January 27, 2013, the owner of a 2007 Audi Q7 contacted the Newark Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that he had left his car running while he ran into a pizzeria to pick up his order, but when he returned for the vehicle, it was missing.

The Newark Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System concealed in the 2007 Audi Q7.

A short time later, a police officer from the Newark Police Department picked up the silent homing signals coming from the stolen Audi Q7 on the LoJack Corporation Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to the Iron Bound section of Newark, where the vehicle was recovered parked and undamaged. Another happy ending thanks to LoJack Corporation and local police.

The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 Audi Q7 on November 9, 2012 at Park Ave Acura in Maywood, New Jersey.
