Classic Camaro Stolen in Alameda, CA — Recovered by CHP Air Unit Using LoJack

On October 19, 2012, the owner of a restored classic 1970 Camaro Super Sport with a 500 hp LT1 motor had his car parked in Alameda, when it was stolen from the street. The owner quickly reported the crime to the Alameda Police Department, who verified the theft. The officers then had the Camaro’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short while later, California Highway Patrol’s Helicopter H-30, while over East Oakland, picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Camaro with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in the aircraft. The LoJack PTC provides officers with on-board information which permits them to locate the stolen vehicle quickly and with an increased margin of safety.
Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computers, H-30 coordinated with CHP ground units and located the vehicle, abandoned on the street. The total value of the recovery was $40,000.
