Franklin County, Ohio Sheriff’s Office Recovers Stolen Kubota BX25 Backhoe Assisted by the LoJack® System

In this case, a 2013 Kubota BX25 backhoe/front end loader is taken from a national home improvement store in Reynoldsburg, OH, when the customer provides fraudulent information and the store only finds out after the machine has left the premises. Luckily, the store’s managers were smart enough to have the LoJack® system installed on the machine, so local police were able to track it down quickly.
On July 27th, 2013, store contacted the Reynoldsburg Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Kubota.
Shortly after, several law enforcement agencies in the Metro Columbus area picked up the homing signals from the BX25 on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their cruisers. A Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office tracked the vehicle to a building in an industrial area of Columbus. Columbus Police Auto Theft Unit was notified and the stolen backhoe was found along with a stolen trailer. The Kubota was soon returned to the home improvement store, whose management was very happy that they had protected it with a LoJack.
