The LoJack® System Helps Michigan Law Enforcement Recover Stolen Oldsmobile Intrigue and Bust Auto Theft Ring

When a couple of career car thieves stole an Oldsmobile Intrigue in Detroit, MI recently, they got a lot more than they bargained for. The Olds was protected by the LoJack® system, so local law enforcement was able to track the car to their residence, which led to the recovery of seven other stolen cars and their arrest.
On September 12th, 2013, the owner of the Olds contacted the Detroit Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Intrigue, which was installed at Avis Ford in Southfield, MI.
A short while later, several law enforcement agencies in the Metro Detroit area picked up the homing signals from the Olds on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their cruisers. Officers with the Detroit Police Department, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and members of the ACTION Auto Theft Task force worked together to track the vehicle to a private residence in Detroit. The located the Intrigue in the rear yard along with seven other vehicles. Two males were removing parts from one of the vehicles and, upon seeing law enforcement, dropped their tools and attempted to flee on foot. Both suspects, both of whom had extensive police records for vehicle theft, were quickly apprehended. The other vehicles had all been stolen from Detroit within the past three days. The Oldsmobile was soon returned to its relieved owner. This case was the fifth time the Intrigue has been stolen and recovered using LoJack.
