Baltimore City, Maryland Police Recover Stolen Acura MDX in One Hour, 22 Minutes and Break up a Suspected Chop Shop, Assisted by the LoJack® System

  • November 12, 2013

When the LoJack® system is activated in a stolen vehicle, retrieving the car, truck, van, or motorcycle is the ultimate goal. Sometimes the recovery nets more than the vehicle itself, like another vehicle or other purloined items. In this particular case in Baltimore, MD, police hit the jackpot when they uncovered a suspected chop shop and not only found the Acura MDX they were tacking, but several other stolen vehicles and auto parts as well.

On October 23rd, 2013, the Acura’s owner contacted the Baltimore City Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the MDX, which was installed at Frankel Acura in Cockeysville, MD.

A short while later, flight officers from the Baltimore City Police Department Aviation Unit Foxtrot and detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter and patrol vehicles. The Acura was tracked to a private residence on Chatham Avenue, where they found the MDX as well as a ‘chop shop’ containing five other previously stolen vehicles and numerous parts from other vehicles. The detectives have identified the suspect who was operating this chop shop and have obtained charging documents for numerous counts of auto theft and related charges. The Acura was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
