The LoJack® System Helps Riverside County, California Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Yamaha Z1 Motorcycle in 10 Minutes and Bust up Chop Shop

  • November 25, 2013

When a Yamaha Z1  motorcycle was discovered missing early one Monday evening, the LoJack® system installed at purchase came to the rescue- not only did local police recover the bike in just 10 minutes after activation, but they also found several other stolen bikes and broke up a suspected chop shop.

On November 11th, 2013, the Yamaha’s owner contacted the University of Riverside Police to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Z1, which was installed at East Bay Motorsport in Hayward, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department- Temecula Station had picked up the homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the motorcycle to a residential address in Temecula. An armed male occupant at the site was taken into custody. Upon searching the location, deputies found not only the Z1 but two other bikes that had been reported stolen and other motorcycles as well. The Yamaha was recovered and soon returned to its grateful owner.
