The LoJack® System Assists Ohio State Highway Patrol in Recovery of Stolen Mercedes Benz CL

  • January 24, 2014

It was a cold December evening in Youngstown, OH, and the owner of a Mercedes Benz CL decided to let his car warm up in the driveway before going out for the evening. This was not a good idea. When a stranger jumped into the vehicle and drove off, the owner contacted police right away to report it stolen and have his LoJack® system activated. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered the CL later that same night.

On December 27th, 2013, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Youngstown Police Department to report the crime.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the CL, which was installed at Beverly Hills Exotic & Unique Cars in Woodside, NY.

Later that evening, several law enforcement agencies in the Metro Akron area picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their cruisers. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol located the Mercedes traveling in downtown Akron. The driver attempted to elude police by parking behind a building and fleeing on foot, but was quickly taken into custody. The undamaged CL was soon returned to its relieved owner.
