The LoJack® System Helps Chicago, Illinois Police Recover 2013 BMW 650 Stolen from Dealership in Atlanta, Georgia

A 2013 BMW 650 Ci valued at $87,000 was stolen from a dealership in Atlanta, GA, due to fraudulent information provided by the purchaser. This thief probably thought he or she was home free when the car was transported to Chicago, IL, but this clever crook wasn’t counting on the LoJack® system. The victimized dealership installs LoJack on all the vehicles on their lot- protecting not only the eventual owners of the cars but the company itself in cases like this one.
On June 3rd, 2014, dealership management contacted Gwinnett County Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the 650 Ci.
A while later, officers with the Chicago, IL Police began to receive the silent homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The BMW was located at a vacant home in a rural section of Chicago, where it was parked and abandoned. After a search of the house and the surrounding area, the 650 Ci was retrieved and soon returned to the relieved dealership.
