(PHOTO) LoJack® System Helps Texas Department of Public Safety Recover Stolen BMW 545

The owners of a 2004 BMW 545 contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen during a home burglary. The subject(s) had broken into the residence and taken personal items and stole the BMW from the garage with the keys that had been left on the counter.

The Harris County SD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Sometime later Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter unit 102 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the aircrew tracked the signal to a residential area and located the BMW at the intersection of Maplewood and Skyline. The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers were alerted, came to the location and made the recovery of the BMW.  The BMW was in good condition and was stored pending notification of the owner.
