LoJack® System Helps New York Police Department Recover a Stolen Air Compressor

  • August 14, 2015

The foreman of a construction company reported the theft of a 2015 Melroe Air Compressor from a job site they were working at in Rockaway Queens, confines of the 100 precinct.

The New York Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the stolen Air Compressor.

A short while later, Officers from the 106 precinct picked up the silent signal from the LoJack® System installed on the stolen Melroe on their LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack Police Tracking Computers, they tracked the signal into the Howard Beach section of Queens, confines of the 106 precinct. There they located the Air Compressor which was hidden in a wooded area off a residential street.  They decided to stake the Air Compressor out; they staked it out for a short while. After a short while when no one came for the machine, they took it into custody. The machine was recovered in excellent condition with no damage. The construction company was contacted. They were elated that their machine was recovered so quickly, especially with no damage on it.  The foreman stated that he was happy that his machine had been equipped with LoJack that was purchased by the rental company. Further stating that if it wasn’t for LoJack it may not have been recovered at all.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Melroe Air Compressor in May 2015 via Commercial Sales.
