LoJack® System Helps Chicago Police Department Recover Stolen Bentley Continental

A 2005 Bentley Continental convertible was taken in a fraudulent purchase by means of identity theft in Golden Valley, a suburb of Minneapolis. The owner contacted the Golden Valley Public Safety Department who verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers.
Within minutes of the Bentley being reported as stolen in Minnesota, officers from the Chicago Police Department’s Austin District, using the LoJack Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft, tracked the stolen Bentley to the 4800 block of West Chicago Ave in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. The Bentley was parked unoccupied on the street in front of a barber shop near that location. As the police were investigating the stolen Bentley a person exited the barber shop introduced himself as the owner and produced the fraudulent identification used to purchase the vehicle. The offender (a known identity thief in Chicago already under federal investigation for identity theft) was arrested and charged with multiple felonies.
The Bentley was recovered undamaged and towed by the Chicago PD for investigation. Due to LoJack this Bentley was recovered less than an hour after it was reported stolen from Minnesota on Chicago’s west side undamaged and returned to a grateful owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Bentley Continental Convertible in December 2004 at Braman Motor Cars in West Palm Beach, Florida.
