LoJack’s leading GPS technology turns yet another vehicle theft into a successful recovery story. In this recent case, a thief posing as a potential customer entered a dealership and drove off with a 2018 Kia Stinger, valued at $42,000. Fortunately, LoJack’s nationwide GPS solution had been installed and the police were able to locate the vehicle and suspect.

Dealership Test Ride Gone Wrong

In June 2022, a potential customer entered a dealership in Fife, WA and expressed interest in a 2018 Kia Stinger. Per the request, a salesperson retrieved the keys and started the engine. However, once the vehicle was running, the thief jumped into the driver’s seat and sped from the dealership.

In response to the theft, an officer from the Fife Police Department arrived to investigate. Once the theft was confirmed, the officer had the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) entered as stolen into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. Meanwhile, the dealership’s management team reported the theft to LoJack’s stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) hotline and initiated LoJack’s recovery assistance.

LoJack Partners with Police to Recover Stolen Vehicle

A LoJack recovery agent monitored the vehicle and found its location to be at an apartment complex in Kent, WA. The agent contacted the Kent Police Department’s communication center and provided the vehicle’s real-time location details. However, before an officer could arrive, the vehicle went mobile. The agent resumed monitoring the vehicle until it eventually stopped at a store in Renton, WA. The updated vehicle location was then provided to Renton officers who responded to the scene.

Officers surrounded the stolen Kia Stinger, but the suspect refused to pull over and escaped around the police vehicles. The suspect then drove back to the same apartment complex in Kent. Once the LoJack agent confirmed the vehicle was stationary, the Kent Police Department arrived at the new scene. Officers were able to successfully recover the unoccupied Kia Stinger and return it back to the dealership with the help of LoJack’s SVR technology. “LoJack did its thing and got us the car back undamaged, which is a first for us!” stated the dealership’s Operations Manager.
